"1500 intake manifold on a Mk1?"
I'm looking at a '63 Mk1 to pick up as a restoration project. The current owner bought it only to get the twin-carbs for his own TR-6 restoration. So it has the intake manifold but no carbs.
There is also for sale locally a Weber on a 1500 manifold ($200). As a quick fix for the carb problem it seems ideal.
I don't see any reason why a 1500 manifold shouldn't mate right up to an old 1147cc block. But that doesn't mean Triumph didn't change things so that they won't match up.
Can anyone enlighten me?

Having just tricked my wife into giving me a green-light, I'm now hunting for a 1500 (or a Mk3 or a Mk2 or a MkIV, whatever I can get my hands on) project car...

The 1500 manifold will NOT fit an 1147 block because the 1147 has only 2 intake ports where the 1500 has 4.
I hope the guy who robbed the carbs for a TR6 is not too dissappointed by the lack of performance.
You can use anything from a Mk1 or Mk2 or earlier small Triumph engines that have siamesed intake ports. The Mk3 Spitfire was the first model that had an 8-port head.

Thanks Joe!
I guess that means no "quick fix" if I do buy that '63...
Are there any readily available carbs aside from the original (and somewhat hard to find) SUs that bolt up to the original manifold?

I can't imagine that it is hard to find a pair of SUs for a Mk1/Mk2 engine. Check with Nigel of Spitbits, or Ted Schumacher of TSI. Either of them could point you in the right direction.

Guess what Joe, I am selling a 1500 manifold on eBay and it is only fetching £0.99p ?????? No other bidders and just a few hours to go. Silly of me to forget to put a reserve on it. Oh well, its a bargain for someone.
